International Beachcombing Conference - 2012

Special Events

We have an exciting, fun-filled yet relaxing weekend of activities planned for you! In addition to lectures, field trips and workshops, there are a number of other special events to engage conference participants.

Beachcomber's Welcome Reception

When:
Thursday evening, October 4th, 2012 7:00 pm on.
Where: Virden Center Lobby and Schooner Room
Join us at the Beachcomb Conference's Opening Night for light fare as you socialize with old beachcomb buddies and make new ones. Comb through the "Swap Tabl, check out the display and then settle down to listen to the keynote address. Authors of many of your favorite beach-related books will be on hand to personally sign copies of their works for you.

Low Tide Mini Sessions

Join consummate beachcombers to learn more about specific beaches and artifact history. This year, Rebecca Siswick discusses Cape Anne sea glass and pottery shards; Jay Taylor shares his knowledge on English sea glass; Evan Breary talks about Bahamian history as portrayed by the treasures found on its beaches; and Ed Haney focuses on a Delaware Beach that yields treasures from per-history to present day.

Sea Glass and Beach Arts Bazaar

When: Thursday evening through Sunday
Get a head start on your holiday shopping for others (and yourselves!) at the Holiday Beach Bazaar: sea glass jewelry, coastal books, stationary, fishing floats, beach artifacts, English sea glass, and much, much more!

Collectors Showcase, Trader’s Alley, Artifact I.D.

When: Friday Evening
Feel free to bring some of your favorite and/or more interesting beach treasures to display and show to others (including any interesting stories behind their discovery…) Beachcomb specialists and authors will be available to help identify and/or give you more information on your special treasures (if they can!)

Also sort through your beach treasure collections and tote them along with you to swap or gift to others. Each year, combers go home with an amazing new assortment of beach treasures they either received in their registration "Goody Bags," found on the Swap Table, were given or traded.
NOTE: This is usually our party night, so you might want to BYOB, too!

Beach Raffle
Each year, beachcombers, authors, artists, and friends donate items to raffle off to defray the cost of the Conference. Last year, we had a book/sea glass package from Richard LaMotte; vintage fishing floats and a book from Dr. Beachcomb; crab buoys; sea glass jewelry and much, much more. People purchase raffle tickets all weekend and then the fun begins Sunday morning when names are pulled for the prize. If you have something you might like to contribute to this raffle, please feel free to bring it.
